Just who am I, anyway?

What a surprise, finding myself a Blogger Blog of Note today! I’m honored, but slightly uncomfortable. Yes, this is a public space, and yes, many anonymous readers stop by … but somehow, anyway, right now, I feel a little exposed.

You see, I think of myself as a knitblogger. I’m part of a large and wonderful community of people who share my passion, and I’m blessed to have made many friends, both real and virtual, in this relatively small corner of the big old internet. But here, today, the doors have been flung wide open!

My blog and my life seem to be defined by what is going on right now — cancer treatment and navigating the strange terrain of it, and getting on with it — but when I seek to define myself cancer isn’t at the top of the list.

So: I’m a knitter. I’m a spinner. I’ve made many pairs of socks, and whatever else that has inspired me. I love yarn. I design knitting patterns once in a while. I’m a bookseller, too. I live with that cat, in a little apartment near the Atlantic Ocean. I go to the water as often as I can, to refill and be and look out at the horizon. I’m a middle child. Sure, I have cancer. I also have a good life that’s on the way to getting better.

There. I feel better now. Welcome everyone!

  2. Hello Jane. Congratulations, (I guess) on the Blog of Note. I know what you man by feeling exposed. Yet, I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog. I’m a potter, but have done a little bit of knitting. My six year old daughter is learning knitting and her excitement about it is rubbing off on me.

  3. “I’m honored, but slightly uncomfortable” […] “I feel a little exposed”?May I ask you then why are you blogging on one of the most popular blog-ecosystem in the entire WWW?I am not being sarcastic, just genuinely curious as I am quite sure you’ve got an oxymoron there.

  5. Jane, you have for a long time been one of my bloggers of note. And don’t worry, nothing is showing, nothing private, nothing that shouldn’t be – I am attracted to the calmness of your posts … the consideration, and to your kindness in small ways that I know occur (I was once a recipient – out of the blue – so I know). Well done, now breath deep, relax, fondle some yarn, and take time to select a knitting project that feels right.

  6. Jane,My Mother just finished 5-1/2 months of chemo for colon cancer. She is my hero, and now you are too. It’s a tough road and takes an incredibly strong woman to make it through with the grace that you have shown in your posts. May God bless you with renewed strength and excellent health. The Duchess (from Emma’s blog)

  16. Ha! Your blog is entertaining. It would be nice if you would share some of your favorite patterns, or maybe give some tips to us beginners. Every time I start a knitting project, I end up abandoning it because no matter how many times I try again, over and over, I never seem to get any better. Any advice?

  18. I think that I may have found a soul mate here as both a cancer fighter and another knitter. I have been a fighter for over 2 years now and I hate to be defined by that. Instead I am definately defined for my artistic ability to be stuck in my home and come out with the most interesting crafts… Like Knitting puppets. lol. Anyways.. I want you to know that you are a true inspiration to those around you because you are who you are. So remember… also be tru and smile and you will impact what may be someone’s entire world. 😉

  19. Interesting note.Makes me wonder, if anyone asks how do you define yourself, what is the first thing you say? I’m sure everyone will have more than one definition, but what comes first?
