About Not Plain Jane

“Where did Jane go?”

Down a long path with too many twists and turns to write about. I’m on my way back around now, though!

A little about me: I’ve been knitting for almost 40 years. I came to it through weaving and spinning, and I’m a child of the 1980’s craft explosion – the early days of the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, The Frederick and National Craft Fairs, and many, many more during that lively time. Those days taught me about the delights of fiber and fabric and color, as well a community — but knitting has been my passion or years and years. I love yarn, and I love being able to make knit and purl stitches become something. My first knitting pattern was published in 2006; there have been a few more since then, and there are even more to come.

At the beginning of 2013 I joined Clara Parkes as she launched The Great White Bale, an adventure in making yarn from one enormous bale of Merino wool. I signed on as Clara’s Director of Customer Happiness — and to tell you the truth, I’m the happy one. It was an honor to work with Clara as she took us on this incredible virtual journey. And now, we’ve gone beyond the Bale, into new yarn territory with Clara Yarn.

I live on the East End of Long Island, NY  — which is almost surrounded by water, and which inspires me every day. The Atlantic Ocean, Noyac Bay, and all the beauty in between are the places that keep me grounded.

I’m lucky to have an unusual day job – I’m the office manager at a wonderful place,  Stony Hill Stables in Amagansett. What could be better than enthusiastic children and beautiful animals who make every day more peaceful and happy?

Life has put me on some pretty bumpy roads in the past few years, but I’m proud to say I’ve navigated every twist and turn.
